School to Work

(School based Apprenticeships and Traineeships)

School to Work aims to assist and encourage students to take part in structured Vocational Education and Training (VET) that leads to school based Apprenticeships/Traineeships (SAT's) and hopefully, an ongoing Apprenticeship/Traineeship once school is completed.

School based Apprenticeships/Traineeships (SATs) allow high school students to work for an employer and work towards a recognised qualification, while completing your secondary schooling and studying for your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

Where possible, School to Work training is linked to skill shortage areas, thereby maximising a student’s employment prospects. It also provides structured work placement with a Host Employer and structured training through a Supervised Registered Training Organisation (SRTO). Regular support and advice to students, parents, Host Employers and SRTO's, ensures all parties’ needs are met with one common outcome – course completions.

What are the benefits of a School based Apprenticeship / Traineeship?

  • Get a head start in your career while still at school
  • Gain experience in the workplace
  • Earn while you learn
  • Train towards a qualification in your chosen career
  • Work towards achieving a nationally recognised qualification
  • Gain more confidence
  • Apprentices accrue all entitlements on a pro rata basis as well as being paid at block training
